Other Data Collected on the Website: Google Analytics

Texas Advocacy Project uses Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google, to help understand how visitors engage with our website. This information helps us improve our website's functionality, content, and user experience.

Google Analytics collects data primarily through first-party cookies and similar tracking technologies. The type of information collected includes:

  • Usage and Interaction Data: This encompasses details about your visit, such as the number of users, session statistics, pages viewed, time spent on each page, navigation paths, and interactions with website elements (e.g., clicks, scrolls, video engagement, file downloads). It also identifies what brought you to our site (e.g., search engines, direct traffic, referral sources).
  • Device and Browser Information: Data about the device and browser you use to access our site, including device type, operating system, browser type, language settings, and screen resolution.
  • Approximate Geolocation: General geographic location (country, city) derived from IP addresses, but not precise location.
  • Demographic and Interest Data: Aggregated and anonymized information about user demographics (e.g., age, gender) and interests, which is processed using data from third-party sources.
  • Identifiers: Google Analytics stores a client ID in a first-party cookie (_ga) to distinguish unique users and sessions. For mobile applications, it may use an app-instance identifier.

It is important to note that Google Analytics is designed not to collect Personally Identifiable Information (PII) such as your name, email address, or credit card details. The data collected is aggregated and anonymized to provide insights into overall website trends rather than individual user identification.

How We Use This Data: We use the data collected by Google Analytics to:

  • Analyze website traffic and user behavior.
  • Understand which parts of our website are most popular and how users navigate through them.
  • Optimize our website for different devices and browsers.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of our content and campaigns.

Your Privacy Choices: You can choose to opt-out of Google Analytics tracking. Google provides a browser add-on that prevents your data from being used by Google Analytics.

Texas Advocacy Project collects a lot of personal data from our clients that is covered by our Notice Regarding Client Privacy and Confidentiality.

As a nonprofit, we are exempt from the United States Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).

We may use the information we collect from Pro Bono and other Volunteers for various reasons, based on our legitimate interests, including:

  • To send you free legal information, information on our services, promotions or events as necessary for our legitimate interest in conducting direct marketing, or to the extent you have provided your prior consent.
