The Allstate Foundation awards $100,000 to Texas Advocacy Project for the “Legal and Economic Justice Initiative”

AUSTIN, TX July 14, 2020 – AUSTIN, TX – The Allstate Foundation will invest $100,000 in Texas Advocacy Project’s Legal and Economic Justice Initiative. The grant will be used to provide legal services and access to economic empowerment information to survivors of domestic violence across Texas, so that they can get and stay safe.

Survivors experience an extremely complex set of legal and economic problems ─ which often go hand-in-hand ─ as they make their journeys from domestic violence victim to survivor. Beyond the emotional and physical abuse suffered by victims, many also experience financial abuse that creates serious obstacles to achieving economic security and stability. Abusers frequently use control of finances to force victims to stay in an abusive relationship. Victims are often forced to choose between staying or facing economic hardship or extreme poverty. The Allstate Foundation Grant to Texas Advocacy Project will help ensure that a growing number of victims receive the legal relief and economic empowerment tools they so desperately need.

The Allstate Foundation works toward creating prosperous communities where people are inspired and empowered to fulfill their hopes and dreams by improving, expanding and raising awareness of our initiatives and the issues they support. The Allstate Foundation identified four core areas of need:

  1. Inspiring the next generation of leaders
  2. Ending domestic violence and financial abuse
  3. Honoring Allstate volunteerism with Helping Hands®
  4. Strengthening nonprofit leaders with the Nonprofit Leadership Center
