LGBT Initiative
A client from our Assisted Pro Se Department
(Story Condensed) I am very grateful for all the help I received from Texas Advocacy [Project]. I had been struggling for over a year in my marriage which was abusive. If I had known about your project I would have come to you sooner. Thank you for all your help. If it hadn't been for Texas Advocacy Project I would still be lost. I pray that all women in abusive marriages will seek your organization because they will have happy peaceful lives. God Bless all of you. (Name withheld to protect the confidentiality of the client.)
In addition to increasing awareness within the LGBT community about the availability of our free legal assistance, The LGBT Initiative provides an opportunity for more in-depth training and technical support to LGBT activists and allies regarding relief available under state and federal laws, including crime victim rights under the Texas Constitution. We provide a variety of trainings on topics including domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence in LGBT relationships, protective orders, emergency protective orders, crime victims? rights, and safety planning. If you wish to coordinate a training please contact Jose Juan Lara, Jr., Director of Advocacy and Training, at 512-225-9573 or jlara@texasadvocacyproject.org.
