LGBT Initiative

A client from our Assisted Pro Se Department

(Story Condensed) I am very grateful for all the help I received from Texas Advocacy [Project]. I had been struggling for over a year in my marriage which was abusive. If I had known about your project I would have come to you sooner. Thank you for all your help. If it hadn't been for Texas Advocacy Project I would still be lost. I pray that all women in abusive marriages will seek your organization because they will have happy peaceful lives. God Bless all of you. violence occurs in relationships regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. The LGBT Initiative focuses on gay, lesbian, bi-sexual and transgender survivors of intimate partner violence, as well as the unique barriers that impact their access to justice. The goal of the LGBT Initiative is to get the word out to victims within the LGBT community in Texas that free legal help is available.

In addition to increasing awareness within the LGBT community about the availability of our free legal assistance, The LGBT Initiative provides an opportunity for more in-depth training and technical support to LGBT activists and allies regarding relief available under state and federal laws, including crime victim rights under the Texas Constitution. We provide a variety of trainings on topics including domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence in LGBT relationships, protective orders, emergency protective orders, crime victims? rights, and safety planning. If you wish to coordinate a training please contact Jose Juan Lara, Jr., Director of Advocacy and Training, at 512-225-9573 or jlara@texasadvocacyproject.org.
