Economic Justice Initiative
Client of the Teen Justice Initiative
(In reference to coming to Texas Advocacy Project as a teenager needing a Protective Order against her abusive boyfriend.) I feel that my family and myself are safer. I no longer want to be in that [dangerous] position and I don't want to be scared of someone who is supposed to love me. I just want to say that my attorney Bronwyn Blake is my hero, she is the best, and if I can I would like to tell my story & encourage other teens to do and make the right decision.  Legal representation to survivors seeking child support enforcement or modification;
 Legal representation for other domestic violence-related consumer law issues;
 Financial literacy classes (two hours a week for ten weeks, with child care available); and
 Enrollment in a savings matching program.
To be eligible to receive free legal services and participate in the savings match program, clients must agree to participate in financial literacy classes. These classes, which focus on how to end financial ties to abusers and provide necessary tools for becoming financially independent, are a critical component in the journey from victim to survivor. The first free ten week class - helping survivors move ahead through financial management - will start in January 2010.
After completing all ten of the classes, women will be able to enroll in an additional program focusing on helping women increase their savings. Learn more about Individualized Development Accounts.
If you are a survivor of domestic violence interested in applying for this program - or if you are an advocate wanting to submit referrals please contact Jessica Cassidy, Equal Justice Works Fellow directly at 512.225.9583.
If you are an organization located in Travis county interested in hosting a presentation on the Economic Justice Initiative , please contact the Equal Justice Works fellow directly at 512.225.9583.
