February 18th, 2007 marked the 16th annual Austin Marathon sponsored by AT&T.  The race is operated by the Austin Marathon Foundation, a non-profit corporation designed to raise funds for local and national charities through physical fitness and well-being.

This year the Women's Advocacy Project is proud to have been a chosen beneficiary of its first annual Run for a Cause.  With thousands of worthy charities to choose from, ‘The Project' is honored to be placed among an elite group of non-profits such as the Capital Area Food Bank, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, and Austin Children's Center.

Stacey Conley of the Austin Marathon Foundation says Women's Advocacy Project was a logical choice for a beneficiary. "Our community is filled with people who need the legal services of Women's Advocacy Project," Conley said. "The Austin Marathon Foundation was thrilled to promote the Women's Advocacy Project as an official fundraising partner for the 2007 AT&T Austin Marathon. We believe in a healthy community and people facing abuse need our support to become empowered to end the violence."

This year the Austin Marathon Foundation was able to raise much needed funds and community awareness for the Women's Advocacy Project. Including an amazing contribution of volunteer hours from corporate supporter Accenture, who provided a team of employees to help keep the runners hydrated at the first waterstop along the race course.  ‘The Project' would like to extend our warmest thanks to the Austin Marathon Foundation, the participants who on top of running 26.2 miles developed pledge pages to raise funds for us, Accenture, and all of the11,500 runners, as well as the more than 30,000 spectators that came to witness the 2007 AT&T Austin Marathon.  Without these contributors we could not have enjoyed such tremendous success.
