Project Hotlines serve 40 % more clients in 2008

Out of nearly 20,000 lives affected by the Project in 2008, our legal hotline served 3,672 clients, impacting the lives of approximately 9,330 household members. That’s a 40% increase in clients served over 2007.

Texas Advocacy Project provides one of the only solutions proven to halt domestic violence: legal intervention. We’re spreading the word across Texas that we are here and we are ready to help. And we are refusing to allow abuse to go unchecked.

Project attorneys provide a continuum of legal services to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault statewide, including: 

• obtaining a protective order
• obtaining temporary orders for child support
• filing for divorce
• safety and community-resource information
• referrals to legal representation in their area

Taking steps to minimize barriers to legal services, The Project staffs both English and Spanish-speaking hotline attorneys and utilizes a language interpretation service available around the clock, allowing us to give legal advice in over 170 languages. The Project also employs a service for deaf callers. All Texas Advocacy Project services are completely free of charge.
